PJ’s Bar-B-QSA – Restaurant Renovation

Project Name and Location: PJ’s Bar-B-QSA
Saratoga Springs, NY
Client: PJ and Carolyn Davis
Type of Contract: Restaurant Renovation
Project Value:  $649,000
Project Description: PJ and Carolyn Davis have been operating PJ’s Bar-B-QSA on Route 9 in Saratoga Springs for about 30 years as a seasonal business. This past winter they completely renovated and modified the ‘60s drive-in (it used to be an A&W), and made it a year round restaurant.
Project Feedback: John McKown, F. H. Alexander’s project superintendent, explains, “This was a major renovation project where we replaced the concrete floors and the roof. It was an old building that had had many additions over the years. We renovated the whole place except the kitchen, replacing the heating and cooling systems, all the plumbing, and adding an inside rotisserie so they can barbecue inside in winter. We could see our accomplishments every day as the whole outside facade changed.”

Nick Elia, an architect with Phinney Design Group, adds, “The owner wants to start a franchise, and making this a four season restaurant is a minimum requirement. We changed the look from an old style diner to a modern BBQ joint. We had a great relationship with FHA. They are easy to work with. FHA is a hands on organization with lots of field correspondence, which is key to having office communication flow freely. We had a very good experience working with them.”
